Recover Co.'s cold plunge, sometimes called an ice bath, offers a short, bracing contrast to the warmth of the sauna or the end of a training session. Plenty of members say they come out feeling alert and refreshed. How it feels is personal, and colder or longer isn't automatically better. The studio is in Morayfield, a short drive from Caboolture, Burpengary and Narangba.
Book through the Recover Co. app, bring swimwear and a towel, and shower before you get in. Lower yourself in slowly, keep your head and neck out of the water and focus on slow, steady breathing. Start with a short dip and get out whenever you've had enough.
Cold water puts real stress on the body, so it isn't suitable for everyone. Royal Life Saving Australia advises people who are pregnant, have a heart, circulation or blood pressure condition, Raynaud's, an autoimmune disorder or another chronic illness, or take certain medications to get medical advice before trying cold water immersion. Stop and tell a team member if you feel unwell.
Cold plunge is one of the recovery experiences available to Recover Co. members, alongside infrared sauna, warm plunge, compression, red light therapy and more. Book through the Recover Co. app and check it for current availability, or see our memberships page for current options.
Many members alternate between heat and cold, but there's no single sequence that suits everyone. Give yourself a moment between the two, go at a pace that feels comfortable and follow the studio instructions. Our guide to contrast therapy for beginners explains how people usually approach it.
Not necessarily. A cold plunge isn't a test of toughness, and research on cold water immersion and recovery is mixed and depends on the approach studied. Focus on what feels manageable for you, start short and build up gradually if you choose to. If you'd like a hand, ask a team member during staffed hours.
